Mom Trapped Under Her Own Rolling Car Trying to Save Her Twins in Lawrence, MA

Lawrence firefighters responded about 5:35 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 to extricate a mother from under her own car at 18 Marston Street in Lawrence near Marston Street and Storrow Street.

The Honda Accord began to roll while her twin daughters were in the car. The mom ran to chase the car and try to stop it, but the vehicle ran her over and pinned her under the rear axle.

One neighbor put the car in park, and another lifted the car with a jack to try to reduce the pressure on the mother’s body.

Lawrence firefighters used special air bags to stabilize and lift the Honda Accord. Next paramedics stabilized the victim’s body and safely removed her from under the vehicle.

The mom suffered a severe leg injury and a crushing injury to her mid-section, according to a police report. The children were safe in car seats, and were not injured.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital and then airlifted by medical transport helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for treatment.
