Car with Fire Hydrant Causes Sinkhole Near the Liberty Community Center, South Withers Road and South Wales Drive in Liberty, Kansas


Roads reopen after vehicle hits fire hydrant, falls in sinkhole in Liberty, Kansas.

Liberty police and firefighters responded about about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 near the intersection of South Withers Road and South Wales Drive to a report of a crash with a hydrant.

The driver and a passenger escaped before a sinkhole — formed by gushing water from the hydrant — swallowed the car. No injuries reported.
