Motorcyclist Hits Fire Engine Head-on at Glendora Ridge Road Near Glendora California


Helicopter arrives at about 17:20

A motorcyclist hit a fire engine head-on April 1, 2015 after his motorcycle crossed the center of the road into an oncoming lane. The motorcyclist had come out wide of a right turn curve, and drifted left into the oncoming fire engine.

Firefighters immediately worked to immobilize the patient’s leg and pinpointed their location as the 1.29 mile marker.

There is no cellphone reception where the crash occurred, but firefighters were able to immediately request an air squad by radio.

The publisher video describes the roadway as Glendora Ridge Road, while ABC7 Eyewitness News described the location as Glendora Mountain Road.

The GoPro video shows 24-year-old Jesse Lopez traveling behind another biker. Lopez wanted to show other bikers how he came around a blind curve and crashed head-on into the fire engine with hope of saving other motorcycle riders of a similar fate.

According to the motorcycle’s speedometer, Lopez was traveling up to about 56 MPH on a straightaway just before his last curve. He had slowed down in the curve to about 43 MPH and just as he lost control when he saw the oncoming fire engine.
