Three people were killed in a Suzuki vehicle when the Jeep Wrangler hit the Suzuki head-on. The driver of the Suzuki was identified as 49-year-old Felecia Harris from Charlotte. Also killed were the front seat passenger, 46-year-old Darlene McGee, of Charlotte, and a 6-year-old child, Jahnice Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., in the backseat. Three of the four people inside the Suzuki died on impact.

A fourth person, Jahnia King, age 9, was transported to UNC Hospital and listed in critical condition.

North Carolina State Troopers report the Jeep Wrangler was driven by 20-year-old UNC student, Chandler Michael Kania — a junior at UNC Chapel Hill. Chandler Michael Kania with non-life-threatening injuries was also transported to UNC.

Kania was charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage, possession of alcohol by a person under 21 years of age, and driving by person less than 21 years old after consuming alcohol.

Because Kania is under age at only 20 years old, the Alcohol Law Enforcement is also investigating.

Good morning on this Tuesday. Upper 90s expected today, with a Heat Advisory issued again for much of the viewing area….
