VIDEO: Citizen Rescue At Glen Oaks Apartments Fire On Dowlen Rd, Beaumont, TX

Beaumont Fire/Rescue firefighters responded about 10:50 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 to an apartment fire at 520 Dowlen Road in Beaumont, Texas.

A woman rescued two children from a first floor patio sliding door as firefighters arrived, and while the second floor was well-involved with fire.

When Jo Jo Vaglica and her son happened to witness the fire, they saw people dropping children down from the second floor. The witnesses reported that people originally said all people were evacuated. That information turned out to be incorrect, when the woman ran out from the first floor exit carrying two children.

A building of about 50 apartment units at Glen Oaks on Dowlen Road were displaced Saturday morning when the fire destroyed the 2-story apartment building.

Beaumont Fire/Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said the fire was started by a child playing with a lighter. Four people, including one police officer assisting rescue of residents before firefighters arrived, received minor injuries, according to Capt. Blanchard.

Injuries: Four people with minor injuries

Fire Damage Estimate: $Unknown — Apartment building destroyed
