High Speed Crash on Curve on Grass Lake Rd in Antioch, Illinois

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Antioch firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:04 PM Saturday February 24, 2018 to a report of a crash with injuries near Grass Lake Elementary School, 42.444060, -88.139344 (26177 West Grass Lake Rd Antioch, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the crash was located near Grass Lake Elementary School. The crash was actually located north of the school on the curve between Elm Tree Road and Bluff Lake Road.

Antioch Battalion Chief 21 on arrival by 8:07 p.m. reported heavy, heavy damage ot the vehicle. Battalion Chief 21 reports an ejection at the scene.

The 51 year-old male driver of a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette was heading westbound on Grass Lake Road, west of Bluff Lake Road, when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve, and the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle was found destroyed in a ditch with the male driver ejected from the vehicle.

Antioch Fire Department firefighter/paramedics transported the man to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was listed in critical condition.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation of the crash. The speed limit on the curve is 40 MPH. The speed limit on the straightaway of westbound Grass Lake Road before the curve is also 40 MPH.
