PHOTOS: Two Killed in Head-on Crash on Fairfield Rd Near Route 60 Between Round Lake and Wauconda in Fremont Township, Lake County

Double Fatal Crash in Unincorporated Grayslake

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Grayslake FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:05 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2019 to Fairfield Road north of Route 60 in Fremont Township to a report of a traffic crash with injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a three-vehicle head-on crash involving a Honda Odyssey, a Kia Forte and a white Ford E-350 commercial work van. Grayslake firefighter/paramedics on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage. The crash was initially reported south of Route 60, but the crash was located north of Route 60 closer to the Save a Pet driveway. The Honda Odyssey was a significant distance away from the other two vehicles.

Two people in the Kia Forte were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a female age 56 of Ingleside, sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A front-seat passenger in the Kia, a female age 64 of Round Lake Beach, also sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Ford and driver of the Honda were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ford E-350 Van Crossed Median
Preliminary investigation shows the Ford E-350 commercial work van, driven by a 51-year-old man of Round Lake Beach, was traveling southbound on Fairfield Road, north of Route 60. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the double-yellow-striped median into the northbound lanes. The Ford E350 first struck the driver’s side of a northbound Honda Odyssey, driven by a 42-year-old man of Hainesville. The Ford E-350 van then struck a northbound Kia Forte in a severe head-on collision

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday June 19, 2019 for the two victims killed in the Kia.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Crash investigators will work to determine why the driver of the Ford crossed the median into the wrong lane of traffic.

Initially there was no confirmation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office regarding DUI assessment or pending tests for drugs.

The Speed Limit on Fairfield Road north of Route 60 is 55 MPH with a slow-down zone to 50 MPH near the Save a Pet driveway.
