Hayward Police Sergeant Scott Lunger, age 48, was shot about 3:15 a.m. after he stopped a white Chevrolet pickup that was swerving on the road and driving erratically.

After the driver stopped, he was involved in a confrontation with police, and then shot Lunger without warning. Lunger’s partner fired back. Police as of Wednesday did not release whether they new if the driver of the pickup truck was shot or injured. A white pickup truck that matched the offender’s vehicle description and was found in Oakland with bullet holes.
