House Fire from Furnace to Attic and Through the Roof on Frederic St, Nanuet

Nanuet firefighters responded to report of a furnace fire about 7:00 a.m. Monday. Residents were awakened to the smell of smoke, and when they opened the door the room containing the boiler, smoke poured out of the room. Smoke detectors were at the home, but were not functioning.

The fire was well-involved with heavy fire conditions when firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported.

Smoke from the fire made it necessary to shut down the Old Nyack Turnpike to traffic during the morning rush.

About 70 volunteer firefighters responded to the fire. West Nyack, Orangeburg, Pearl River, New City, Nyack, Spring Valley and Hillcrest were mutual aid. Rockland Paramedics and Nanuet Ambulance were also on the scene.
