Car Fire with Police Officer Rescue on I-405, Sherman Oaks, California

A 26-year veteran of the LAPD Bomb Squad, Don Thompson, was on his way to work on Christmas Day when he saw the driver of a Mercedes lose control and hit the center concrete barrier on the 405 Freeway near near 101, Sherman Oaks. The vehicle started to burn with the driver still inside. Officer Don Thompson was able to release the victim’s seat belt and pull him to safety.

The victim transported to a hospital and is expected to survive. Thompson suffered minor first-degree burns.
