Burger King and Mobil Gas Station Fire; Collapsed Wall Traps Firefighter in City of Iron Mountain, Upper Michigan

A fire was discovered at the Mobil Gas Station in Iron Mountain, Michigan with adjoining Burger King this afternoon that destroyed the entire building and injured two firefighters (Collapse segment/abridged).

Iron Mountain police and firefighters responded about 3:00 p.m. Saturday May 20, 2017 to a report of a fire at a Burger King and a Mobil gas station at 1950 S Stephenson Ave, Iron Mountain, Michigan.

High winds aggravated fire conditions. Two firefighters were injured, and one of the injured firefighters was hit by a falling wall and was entrapped under the collapsed wall for a short time. He was rescued by firefighters and citizens who helped at the scene. Both injured firefighters were released from the hospital.

Both buildings were a total loss. An initial investigation determined that the fire was not set intentionally, but the fire is still under investigation.
