Hot Air Balloon Hits Power Lines, Causes Arcing/Explosion, Injures 5 People in Clinton, MA


VIDEO: A hot air balloon crashed in Clinton, Massachusetts Saturday night, terrifying bystanders who were startled by two explosions as the balloon came down and injuring some of those on the balloon.

Clinton, Massachusetts police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:40 p.m. Saturday to a report that five or six people were burned when a hot air balloon descended into a neighborhood near Greeley Street and Brook Street.

Video captured the balloon descending into the power lines and causing electric arcing and an explosion involving the power lines. The balloon was described as a “Colt” balloon.

Five people were burned in the basket of the balloon. The extent of injuries was unknown Sunday morning.

The crash also knocked out power to about 600 electric customers.
